Oxon Hill, Maryland, is an unincorporated part of southern Prince George County in Maryland. Oxon Hill is also a suburb of Washington DC and is located near Alexandria, Virginia. Moreover, it is also where one of the nation’s notable landmarks is located. Residents living in the Milano at Oxon Hill live close to the 300-acre National Harbor Development and the Oxon Cove Park/Oxon Cove Farm. Named after Thomas Addison’s 18th-century colonial manor, Oxon Hill was an abbreviated form of the word Oxford, as in Oxford, England. Today, the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission owns the manor. The rest of the area comprises garden apartments and condominium communities, much of this development occurring in the 1940s extending into the early 1990s.
